Glasgow and London Gatwick are among Europe’s fastest growing airports of 2015 according to a leading European airport trade body.

ACI Europe has released its traffic report for January to June 2015 which shows that both London Gatwick and Glasgow Airports are the third fastest growing airports in their respective categories in June 2015.

London Gatwick saw 5.4% more passenger traffic between January and June 2015 than the same period last year, while Glasgow International Airport saw a 13.8% increase in passenger numbers during the first six months of 2015, compared to the same period last year.

In June 2015 alone, Glasgow saw an increase of 14.1% in passengers from the previous year, while June passenger numbers at London Gatwick were up by 5.2% compared to June 2014.

Almost 4 million passengers travelled through Glasgow Airport over the first six months of the year.

Glasgow came in just behind Porto and Milan Bergamo airports for consistent growth, while London Gatwick was just behind Madrid and Istanbul in its category.

ACI Europe categorises airports based on passenger numbers with Glasgow Airport falling into group three – airports welcoming between 5 and 10 million passengers – and London Gatwick falling into group one – airports welcoming more than 25 million passengers.

Olivier Jankovec, Director General of ACI EUROPE said “The first half of this year has seen solid passenger traffic growth for the European airport industry.”
